Oral inflammatory diseases (OID) have become a major global health concern due to their health risk and economic burden. Abundance of microbial dysbiosis that leads to dysregulated host's oral immune responses commonly initiates OID. Accumulating evidence indicate that OID (e.g. periodontitis) may significantly influence the pathogenesis of systemic diseases like diabetes, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and cardiovascular diseases. In contrast, various natural derivatives containing phenolic compounds have shown encouraging health benefits against these ailments. This issue titled “Host–Microbiome Interactions in Oral and Systemic Health” focuses to advance our understanding of how oral health contribute to systemic comorbidities. It aims to bring together cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews that are addressing but not limited to; Oral–systemic inflammatory pathways, Host–microbiome interactions and immune responses, Therapeutic strategies targeting microbiome–host interactions. By consolidating these findings, this special issue aims to advance our understanding of the biological and clinical links between oral-systemic inflammation, uncover underlying mechanisms at molecular and cellular level, and identify innovative therapeutic strategies that will ultimately improve patients’ quality of life.

Researchers and clinicians in oral biology, microbiology, immunology, and systemic disease are encouraged to contribute. We encourage original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and perspectives that provide scientifically relevant insights and advance exisiting knowledge.

Keywords: Alzheimer disesea, diabetes, host-pathogen interactions, oral diseases, oral immunology, oral systemic inflammation, osteoporosis, periodontitis, systemic diseases.
